It is important to practice positive self-expression and healing. During our healing circles, participants gather to peacefully express themselves in a safe space. This is an inclusive, confidential, judgement free atmosphere, where participants can express themselves about frustrations, conflicts, traumatic experiences and other concerns.

Keeping Calm Best Practices

Keep calm and carry on! We seek to create an atmosphere where communities can share what they do to keep calm. We will also educate participants on calming techniques and practices including: short walks and hiking, aroma therapy, art, writing, isolation, meditation and yoga.

Moment of Encouragement

Let’s speak well of one another and encourage each other to become our best selves. Participants will engage in uplifting dialogue, as well as activities and exercises to solicit an attitude of preservereance, confidence, and self-love.

Prayer

We believe prayer works! 

Incumbents are asked to be open minded to collectively engage in prayer within new settings; including indoor and outdoor nature environments. We will create prayer journals, engage in solitudinal and collective prayer, as well as create artistic symbolic projects to represent what we have been asking God for.

Spiritual healing is about finding a connection greater than ourselves to heal from within. Be it a higher power, a sense of higher truth, a sense of virtue or meaning, friendship, community, beauty, or sacredness in life, we want to cultivate forgiveness to take steps toward spiritual health.

Educational Support

We strive to empower our youth and communties by investing in their education! Our Education Department offers amazing actvities to support and enhance learning.

Academic Mentoring

We strive to encourage and support our youth throughout their academic journeys! Participants in  our Academic Mentoring Program regularly attend  

study hall, receive academic progress tracking, organization training, as well as attend workshops pertaining to: effective productivity practices, time/stress management, college readiness and career planning.

Financial Literacy

We can develop economically sound adults by educating our youth on financial literacy early on. Participating students are trained and educated on how to save money, invest, life insurance options, building good credit habits, creating profit, and basic economic education.

Life Skills/Coaching

It is important for our youth to learn pertinent life skills that aren't taught in schools and not always at home. Our LIfe Skills/Coaching Program educates students on important life skills such as: healthy nutrition, how to cook healthy meals, changing an auto tire, time/stress management, financial literacy, safe driving practices and more.

Literacy/Numeracy Development

Our Literacy and Numeracy Development Program provides students with in-school and out of school tutoring and extra practice in reading, writing, comprehension, and math. The more our students practice,the better they are able to learn and understand new concepts.

Read Aloud

We seek to encourage the excitement for books, literacy and reading practice through our interactive Read Alouds! Participants enjoy listening to attention grabbing stories and receive free books to take home.

Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics! Incumbents will utilize the creative process to engage in problem solving, experiential learning, and team building.

Our Services

Expressive Arts is a discipline used for helping and healing. It primarily consists of utilizing the arts to coax discovery and change.

Due to Cronavirus concerns, we have suspended contractual services until further notice. 

Participants are encouraged to be open to engage in verbal, and creative exercises that provoke forgiveness, as well as the healing process from troubling, distressful and traumatic experiences. It is strictly enforced that all topics discussed are kept confidential to establish the trust and ensure the integrity of our program.

Creative Arts

Participants will engage in creative exercises to elicit emotional awareness, learn calming techniques and self-care, as well as encourage the process of forgiveness. We will explore a plethora of creative mediums, including: printmaking, acrylic painting, jewelry making, collage, textiles, recycled arts, and other forms of mixed media.      


 

5 and up

Recycled Arts

 

Participants will learn creative ways to reuse discarded materials, to re-create something new. Participants will engage in creative exercises to elicit emotional awareness, the process of forgiveness, and utilize the metaphor that we too, can also recreate ourselves, to positively serve for a new purpose. We will create functional, as well as decorative items using recycled paper, plastic, fabric, etc...

Paper Arts

Participants will engage in expressive exercises using mostly paper as the basis of creativity. We will use paper art making to explore topics on forgiveness, emotional awareness, surrounding ourselves with positivity, overcoming fear/obstacles and more. 

8 and up

Tapestry Making

Incumbents will explore numerous techniques for Tapestry making, while uncovering the depth of their most hidden emotions. We can cultivate healing and growth when we address buried emotional barriers. This opportunity allows participants to address underlying emotions through color, weaving, and mixed media.

Basic Hand Building with Air Dry Clay

Incumbents will explore what it takes to free ourselves from the emotional pain, induced from traumatic and troubling circumstances. We will stretch and mold clay, which also serves as a metaphor, to stretch ourselves toward emotional healing. Incumbents will explore new techniques in utilizing clay to express our innermost feelings. Exercises are designed to elicit the process of forgiveness, self-love, self-confidence, emotional awareness, and more.  Participants will create face mask necklaces, pendants, beads, small vessels and more.

8 and up

Poetry/Spoken Word

Writing is an amazing tool for therapeutic expression.  We will discover and explore inner healing through poetry. Participants are encouraged to keep an open mind as we place ourselves in new writing environments, to encourage calmness and zen. We will use poetry to illustrate our truth, as we take steps toward emotional awareness, forgiveness, self-love, and inner peace.

10 and up

Creative Writing

Creative writing is also an amazing avenue for therapeutic expression. Participants will utilize story telling, metaphor, imagery, and other creative writing concepts for self expression. We will create literature to guide us through emotional awareness, forgiveness and becoming whole from within. 

7 and up

 

To optimize our imact, we provide contractual services to local under-represented schools, group homes, foster homes, juvenile institutions, child cares, family shelters, churches, as well as community organizations, to provide quality programming in the arts, education and spiritual healing.

 

We facilitate inclusive activities within four main categories: Recreational Arts, Expressive Arts, Education and Spiritual Healing. We have lessons appropriate for youth and communities of all ages!

We contract our services on a sliding scale basis. To best fit your needs, we are also flexible in tailoring our creative projects to highlight any positive focus theme of your choice, examples incude: empowerment, feminism, liberty, diversity etc...

Creative Arts

Participants will utilize their imagination and creativity to make original, functional items, as well as decorative pieces. Participants are encouraged to keep an open mind as we explore elements of design, color theory, and art history. Participants are able to explore a plethora of creative mediums, including: printmaking, acrylic painting, collage, recycled arts, and other forms of mixed media.

Recycled Arts

Participants will discover new ways to reuse discarded materials, to recreate something new. Participants will also be educated on the importance of creating a more sustainable environment through waste prevention, and reusing old materials, to prevent excessive landfill waste. We will use teamwork to collect discarded materials, such as: plastic water bottles, milk jugs, straws, etc.. to create functional items, such as: plastic bottle pencil holders, decorative planters, handmade gifts and more.

Cultural Arts

 

Participants will create cultural art to explore and discover our traditional roots. We will learn the history of our origins, discuss traditional stories and beliefs, as well as traditional dress, cuisine and arts.  Participants will enjoy creating masks, drums, dream catchers, traditional jewelry, cultural dolls, decor and more.

Paper Arts

Participants will learn unique ways to utilize paper to create elaborate works of art! Participants will learn various paper folding techniques to create Artist Books. Participants will also engage in collage making, paper mache, tissue paper arts, paper making and more.  

8 and up

Mask Making

Participants will learn the history of mask making and explore various mediums for creating masks, including: paper mache, cardboard, polymer clay, plaster, etc... Participants will utilize paint, beads, yarn, hair, jewelry, rope, fabric and other creative materials to decorate masks. 

5 and up

Tapestry Making

A Tapestry is a woven decorative fabric, with designs that the creator builds on, during the course of weaving.

Participants will utilize fabric, paint, beads and other mixed media to create decorative Tapestries (decorative wall hangings). We will create Tapestries of different sizes, as well as utilize different creative mediums including fabric and acrylic paint.

Jewelry Making

Participants receive the opportunity to create necklaces, bracelets, rings, anklets and waist beads by utilizing wooden, paper, plastic, glass and ceramic beads. Participants will create and design their own beads using paint, markers, jewels and other creative materials. 

5 and up

Basic Weaving (paper, yarn, fabric)

Weaving involves interlinking a set of vertical threads with a set of horizontal threads. Participants will learn basic, resourceful techniques for weaving and loom making. We will also utilize paper, yarn and fabric to create jewelry and beautiful works for wall display.

8 and up

Monoprint Making

Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that utilizes lines or images, that can only be made once - unlike most printmaking, which allows for multiple originals. Participants will carve their own designs to create stamps, necessary for monoprints. Students will learn stamp making techniques and explore the use of new tools, line design, shapes, and more. Participants can create cards, posters, magnets, calendars, and other functional items using this design technique.

5 and up

Repoussé

Repoussé is a metalworking technique, in which a flexible metal (copper or aluminum) is shaped by pressing or hammering from the reverse side, to create a design in low relief. Participants will learn metalworking to create original pieces of art for wall display. Participants will learn how to use metalworking tools and the process of the Repoussé design technique.  


 

8 and up

Basic Hand Building with Air Dry Clay

Handbuilding is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. Participants will learn traditional handbuilding techniques such as coiling and pinching. Participants will learn to create face mask necklaces, pendants, beads, and small vessels

8 and up

Poetry/Spoken Word

Participants will create a personalized poetry book to house their poems. Participants will also learn about various poets; modern and historic. Participants will expand their vocabulary to write new poetry and learn formal vocabulary words pertaining to poetry, i.e.: assonance, free verse, imagery,  rhythm, rhyme, haiku, onomatopoeia, alliteration, etc… Participants are always encouraged to keep an open mind as we explore new themes to write about and indulge in new writing environments, to spark creativity.

10 and up

Creative Writing

Participants will create personalized journals, as well as explore the work of other strong creative writers. Participants will also expand their vocabulary to enhance their writing capacity. We encourage incumbents to keep an open mind as we explore new subject themes and place ourselves in new writing environments, to spark creativity. Participants receive the opportunity to write short stories, comics, poems, short essays, critiques, songs, speeches, short plays and comedy.
